Trump’s Jan. 6th Reunion’s seditious, dangerous speech signals dark future for GOP
DENVER, Colo.—Jonathan Lockwood, a veteran political consultant and spokesperson, is running to lead the Colorado Republican Party. Lockwood is the only candidate in the race to accept the election results and endorsed Biden over Trump, despite supporting Trump in 2015. Lockwood says Trump’s CPAC speech was seditious, divisive and not a speech from a conservative champion, but of a domineering menace. About a third of Republicans, even at CPAC, rejected him running in 2024, and when stacked against other Republicans, 45 percent picked someone other than Trump.
Lockwood released the following statement:
“We heard Trump preach unity, while he put out a list of Republicans for his riotous adherents to target. We heard him trot out the Big Lie. And we heard more of the mythology that he alone is the solution to all of the world’s problems and that Biden is essentially the Antichrist. The Republican Party is in shambles as a result of his failed leadership, and our country is worse off.
“Coloradans, Republicans and Democrats alike, have rejected him repeatedly. We must put a stop to the mythology that Trump is our leader and that we all follow him. We don’t. And that doesn’t make us less Republican, it makes us more Republican. We will not be complicit or be suppressed by MAGA rioters and their allies. They do not have the grip that they think they have, and we won’t allow him or his dangerous behavior to dominate our party.
“I am running to lead the Colorado Republican Party so that we can get away from this constant chaos and start building a party apparatus and start doing the real work of establishing a credible center-right movement in Colorado. If my opponents want to be Trump cheerleaders why don’t they get on their MAGA swag and go dance in the street. The chair position is not supposed to be a cheerleader position, it is an organizational management position that demands leadership. We need to go local, not MAGAnon.
“My vision is to build a party that offers solutions to our state’s greatest problems so we can improve the lives and livelihoods of all Coloradans. We will build a party not centered around one man’s ego, but around conservative values and principles of self-determinism, equality and freedom.”
